Nepal celebrates 75th Democracy Day
Nepal is celebrating the 75th Democracy Day today with a formal ceremony at the Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, marking the historic moment when democracy was established in the country on February 18, 1951.
The day is being observed nationwide with various programs and events commemorating the end of the autocratic Rana regime and the beginning of democratic governance in Nepal.
Government bodies, political parties, and civil society organizations are holding discussions, rallies, and cultural programs to highlight the significance of the struggle for democracy.
Prime Minister Oli visits Skywalk Tower in Kamaladi
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has visited the Skywalk Tower in Kamaladi on Wednesday.
Marking Democracy Day, he hoisted Nepal’s national flag at the top of the tower and described it as an attractive destination suitable for people of all ages, from children to the elderly.
Accompanied by his wife, Radhika Shakya, and members of his secretariat, the Prime Minister toured the site on the public holiday.
Foreign Minister urges Odisha Education Minister to take action against those responsible for Prakriti case
Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has urged Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Surjya Narayan Patro, to ensure an impartial investigation into the death of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal.
Speaking with Minister Patro over the phone on Wednesday, Rana requested a fair probe into Prakriti’s death and action against those responsible.
She also urged Minister Patro to ensure a safe learning environment for Nepali students at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneshwar.
126 Nepali students studying at KIIT return home
A total of 126 Nepali students studying at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) at Odisha state of India have returned home via Raxaul check point.
They returned home citing insecurity following the death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student at KIIT.
Officiating Chief District Officer at the District Administration Office, Parsa, Nishan Raj Gautam, shared that 103 boy and 23 girl students returned home on Wednesday. He mentioned that the returnee students complained that KIIT administration issued threat and gave mental torture to them.
US President Trump criticizes U.S. aid to Nepal and India, calls funding ‘fraud’
U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized U.S. foreign aid to Nepal and India, calling it unnecessary and a misuse of taxpayer money.
Speaking at an event while reading from a document prepared by the Department of Government Efficiency (DoGE), Trump questioned why millions of dollars had been allocated to these countries under various aid programs.
Among the funding he criticized was USD 20 million provided to Nepal for fiscal federalism. Trump labeled the expenditure as fraudulent, saying, “We have sent $20 million to Nepal’s fiscal federation. Listen to these numbers, all of these are frauds.”
