‘Agriculture bill to address farmers’ woes’



KATHMANDU: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari said the agriculture bill under discussion in the parliament would address the problems facing the agriculture sector and farmers.

At a programme organized on the occasion of the eighth foundation day of the Farmers’ Commission at Kirtipur today, he said the ministry was working to formulate laws to make subsistence agriculture commercial.

“Many families are still involved in agriculture, but they have to import agricultural produce in large quantities. Therefore, it is necessary to commercialize agriculture. The Ministry is working on the reforms,” minister Adhikari said.

He stressed the need for every citizen to take the resolution to use their own products and that there should be collective efforts of all three tiers of government.

“Efforts are being made from all sides to increase agro production, but the food and vegetables we eat should not continue to cause diseases,” said Minister Adhikari.
