KATHMANDU: The bail hearing for former DIG Chhabilal Joshi, a defendant in the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative savings embezzlement case, remained inconclusive on Sunday.

The Kathmandu District Court has ordered Joshi to be held in police custody.

The hearing took place before Judge Thakur Prasad Kharel’s bench, where Joshi appeared in connection with the fraud allegations involving the Kalimati-based cooperative.

As the hearing could not be completed, Joshi was placed in the custody of the Kathmandu District Police Office in Bhrikutimandap.

Previously, Joshi, a partner at Gorkha Media Network alongside Rabi Lamichhane and Gitendra Babu Rai (GB), had been released on bail of Rs 8.8 million in a separate fraud case involving the Pokhara-based Suryadarshan Cooperative.

Following the Kaski District Court’s decision to release him on bail, Joshi appeared before the Kathmandu court for further proceedings.

In the current case, the court is yet to decide whether Joshi will face trial in custody or be released on bail.
