Oli wins as party chair but loses as central committee member

KATHMANDU: The results of the 11th general convention of the CPN (UML) have revealed an interesting political outcome.

While K.P. Sharma Oli won the party chairmanship with a large margin, he unexpectedly lost in the race for central committee membership.

Under party rules, Oli had also contested for a position as a central committee member alongside his chairmanship candidacy. He secured a comfortable victory in the chairperson race with 1,663 votes.

However, in the open central committee member category, he received only 979 votes, placing 28th and failing to make the final list.

The final results published by the UML Central Election Commission highlight this unusual development.

Meanwhile, senior vice-chair Ishwar Pokharel, who lost the chairmanship with 564 votes, succeeded in securing a central committee seat.

In the open central committee category, Pokharel received 1,088 votes, ranking 9th and winning a place.
