KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair Rabi Lamichhane, who has been in custody in connection with a cooperative fraud case, will be released only on Friday in accordance with an order from the Butwal bench of the High Court.

Lamichhane, currently held at Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur, will be released after completing formalities at the Rupandehi District Court. He must collect the required release documents from the court before his discharge.

A large crowd gathered outside Nakkhu Prison on Thursday following news of his impending release.

Lamichhane will travel to Bhairahawa on Friday to obtain the release order, after which he will be formally freed. The High Court has ordered his release on a bail of Rs 26.8 million.

The Butwal bench of the High Court in Tulsipur accepted the bail amount submitted and issued the release order, making his appearance at the Rupandehi court necessary for completion of the process.
