BAGLUNG: Eighty percent of the physical work has been completed on the Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga section of the Kaligandaki Corridor, a nationally recognized pride project.
Over the 16 years since the project began, a total of 234 kilometers of road have been blacktopped, and 36 bridges constructed, with six more bridges nearing completion.
According to data from the Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga Road Project in Palpa, the corridor spans districts including Baglung, Gulmi, Palpa, and Nawalpur, as well as the Kaligandaki Highway section covering Mirmi–Setiveni–Phalebas–Armadi–Kushma in Syangja and Parbat. Overall, the project has achieved 80 percent physical progress and 70 percent financial progress.
Project Engineer Utsav Basyal reported that Rs 14.7 billion has been spent so far on tasks such as road opening, upgrading, widening, blacktopping, and bridge construction.
The project, which began in fiscal year 2009/10, is targeted for completion by fiscal year 2026/27. With an estimated total cost of Rs 20 billion, approximately 70 percent of the budget has already been utilized.
So far, 145 kilometers of the road have been completed and handed over to the respective Road Division Office. However, several tasks remain, including contract management for landslide-prone sections, the completion of 0.42 kilometers of roadway, and the construction of 17 additional bridges.
The Gaindakot–Ramdi–Maldhunga section of the corridor extends across four districts, while the Kaligandaki Highway segment traverses two additional districts.
By length, the corridor covers 77.97 kilometers in Nawalpur, 86.27 kilometers in Palpa, 41.06 kilometers in Gulmi, and 34.70 kilometers in Baglung. It also spans 10 kilometers in Syangja and 43 kilometers in Parbat.
