Govt determined to protecting democracy: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to democracy, human rights, peace, and social justice, stating that these values were hard-won through long-standing struggle.

Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Friday, Prime Minister Oli emphasized that the government, having fought for the establishment of democracy and now entrusted with its leadership, will uphold and protect democratic principles and human rights without compromise.

“We are moving forward guided by the Charter of the United Nations, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the evolving dimensions of international relations, along with Nepal’s balanced foreign policy,” he said.

“We have no enemies—we are friends with all. We do not align with one side or the other; we are clearly and firmly in favor of peace and democracy.”

Prime Minister Oli also stressed the government’s responsibility to address the everyday problems of citizens. “Human rights cannot be realized without eradicating poverty,” he stated.

“To that end, we are committed to advancing social justice and equality, especially for marginalized communities.”

He assured that the government would take into consideration the key outcomes and recommendations emerging from the conference and work toward their appropriate implementation.
