Pokhara University confers Long Service Awards on its 29th anniversary



POKHARA: Marking the beginning of its 29th year, Pokhara University honored its dedicated teachers and staff who have served the institution for over 25 years with Long Service Awards.

Those recognized for their long-standing contributions included Registrar Associate Professor Ajay Thapa, Associate Administrator Govardhan Bhattarai, Deputy Administrator Sita Devi Dhakal, Chief Assistants Bimal Karki and Purushottam Ranabhat, Driver Jhaga Bahadur Kamar, and Office Assistants Durga Regmi and Jogiram Nepali.

Established on Shrawan 1, 2054 BS under the Pokhara University Act, 2053 BS, the university has been commemorating its foundation day annually with various programs. This year’s celebration included a tree plantation drive on the university premises, along with the Long Service Medal Award ceremony.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chancellor Prof. Bedraj KC described Pokhara University as a key institution of higher education in the country. He expressed gratitude to former office bearers, social workers, and educationists whose contributions helped the university reach its current stature.

He also expressed confidence that the policies and programs outlined during the 25th University Assembly would lead to more impactful results.

Pokhara University Service Commission Chairman Prof. Tirtharaj Aryal noted that the commission has been operating in line with the university’s statutes and pledged continued coordination to meet institutional goals and plans.

Registrar Associate Professor Ajay Thapa reflected on his 25-year journey with the university, expressing pride in his long service and personal growth alongside the institution.

Recalling the university’s humble beginnings with just 12–15 postgraduate students and around 28 undergraduate students supported by 8–10 staff members, Thapa said the university now serves over 35,000 students through 65 affiliated colleges. He credited this growth to the dedication of the university’s founders, office bearers, faculty, staff, and students.
