UML removes age and term limits for party leadership

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has endorsed a proposal to remove the 70-year age limit and the two-term restriction for party leadership positions.

The decision was made during a party secretariat meeting held last night under the leadership of UML Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

According to UML leader Pradeep Gyawali, these changes were finalized as part of the statute amendment proposal presented by Vice-Chairman Bishnu Prasad Paudel in preparation for the party’s second statute convention.

The UML’s statute convention is scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7 in Lalitpur. The proposed amendments will be submitted to the politburo today, followed by review and endorsement from the central committee.

Under the new structure, the UML will have 15 office-bearers, an 84-member politburo, and a 251-member central committee. Additionally, the party will classify its members into two categories: general members and organized members.

These amendments will come into effect following their approval at the upcoming statute convention.
