Heavy rain expected in parts of four provinces today

KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast heavy rain in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces due to the influence of active monsoon winds and a low-pressure system near its average position.

This afternoon, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy nationwide, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms likely in hilly areas of the aforementioned provinces.

Isolated heavy rainfall is also expected in one or two locations within these regions. Higher elevations may experience light to moderate rain and snowfall.

Some parts of the Terai region in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may also see gusty winds.

Tonight, the country will remain partly to generally cloudy, with continued chances of light to moderate rain and thunder in Koshi and Madhes provinces and nearby hilly areas. Occasional snowfall is possible in high hills and mountainous regions.

The Department has advised caution in flood-prone areas, especially urban and lowland Terai regions, warning of rising water levels in rivers and streams.

It has also urged the public and relevant authorities to take necessary precautions, as adverse weather could disrupt agriculture, transportation, tourism, health services, and daily life in vulnerable regions.
