DALLAS: The government has officially initiated the process to establish a Consulate General office in Dallas, Texas, aimed at serving the growing Nepali diaspora in the southern United States.
Suresh Adhikari, recently appointed as Joint Secretary and Consul General by the Government of Nepal, confirmed that preliminary steps for setting up the office have commenced.
Speaking at a reception and felicitation event organized by the local Nepali community on Tuesday, Adhikari stated that the consulate will begin providing services once a suitable location is selected and the U.S. government grants the necessary approvals.
The Consulate General in Dallas will extend its services beyond Texas to Nepalis residing in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Kansas, Mississippi, and Colorado.
According to Adhikari, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assigned four staff members to the new consulate. Under Secretary Dhana Joshi is already in Dallas, actively coordinating with leaders of the Nepali community to facilitate the establishment of the office.
Community leaders present at the event voiced strong support for the initiative, emphasizing the long-standing need for a consular presence in the region. “The establishment of a Nepali Consulate General in Dallas is not only timely but essential,” said Rajendra Wagle, President of the Nepali Society of Texas. He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the campaign to bring the consulate to Dallas.
Efforts from various Nepali organizations and community members in Texas have been underway for years to secure a consulate, which many see as a major step forward in better connecting Nepalis in the region with their home country.
