Historic Saptapatal Pokhari in Lagankhel under reconstruction



KATHMANDU: The reconstruction of the historic Saptapatal Pokhari located in Lagankhel, Lalitpur, is currently underway under the leadership of the Lalitpur Metropolitan City. The initiative marks a significant step toward restoring the ancient pond to its original form.

Reconstruction efforts began two months ago after the removal of the Namuna Machhindra Secondary School building, which had been occupying the pond area. The effort follows a Supreme Court ruling that annulled the registration of the pond land under the name of the school.

Following the court’s decision, land ownership documents for the 14-ropani area were issued in the name of Saptapatal Pond, paving the way for its revival.

Believed to have been constructed during the Licchavi era, the Saptapatal Pokhari holds historical and cultural significance. The ongoing efforts to restore it have brought joy to local residents, who view the project as the revival of a long-lost heritage site.
