HoR endorses Sahid Dashrath Chand Health Science University Bill



KATHMANDU: The House of Representatives (HoR) today passed the Sahid Dashrath Chand Health Science University Bill, 2081 BS.

A session of the lower house today unanimously endorsed the Bill along with a report from the Education, Health and Information Technology Committee.

Prior to this, Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Raghuji Pant, in his response to queries raised during the discussions on the Bill, said the provision to appoint the Ministers from the education and also the health and population, as pro-chancellors of the University aims to develop the University as a hub of health as well.

During the deliberations, Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai was of the view that the establishment of the University would serve as justice to the citizens of the Sudurpaschim region.

Dr. Amersh Kumar Singh congratulated the people of Sudurpaschim Province on the endorsement of the Bill, while also highlighting ongoing discrimination in development efforts.

He further informed the House that Madhesh Province still lacks a single government medical college while Prem Suwal toot time to highlight the relevance of Khwopa University.

Lawmakers Damodar Paudel Bairaghi, Kiran Kumar Shah, Dr. Chanda Karki, Debendra Paudel, Dilendra Prasad Badu, Bijula Rayamajhi, Ram Krishna Yadav, Ram Prakash Chaudhary, Dayal Bahadur Shahi, Prem Ale, and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha welcomed the government’s initiative to establish the University.

Several parliamentarians also advised that the Bill should include provisions for appointing university leadership through a competitive process, with the aim of developing it as a model university.

The HoR shall meet again at 11:00 am on May 19.
