Drainage system will be improved in Birgunj: Minister Yadav

BIRGUNJ: Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has announced that the drainage system in Birgunj Metropolitan City–18 (Sukhchaina) and Ward No. 21 (Parwanipur) will be upgraded to address long-standing waterlogging issues.

Speaking at a foundation stone-laying ceremony for the construction of drains and roadside slopes along the Parwanipur–Patelnagar road section in Ward No. 21 on Sunday, Minister Yadav said the project would significantly ease flooding during the monsoon and improve mobility in the area.

He emphasized the importance of such infrastructure projects for improving the daily lives of citizens and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing local development.

“Substantial progress has been made in the sectors of drinking water and sanitation. The government remains dedicated to making citizens’ daily lives easier,” said Yadav.

He also instructed concerned authorities to complete the work on schedule, with a focus on services directly impacting people’s lives, such as access to clean drinking water and proper drainage.

According to Ward No. 21 Chairperson Radhe Krishna Sah Rauniyar, the drain and slope project, which spans 1,256 meters from Sukhchaina (Ward 18) to Parwanipur (Ward 21), is being constructed at a cost of Rs 17.2 million.
