Gunakar Bhatta resigns from NRB; emerges as frontrunner for Governor
Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Executive Director of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), has resigned from his post, submitting his letter to Acting Governor Neelam Dhungana on Friday.
Dr. Bhatta’s resignation comes as he emerges as the leading contender to be appointed the new NRB governor, following the departure of Maha Prasad Adhikari.According to political sources, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba have reached a tentative agreement to support Bhatta’s appointment.
Gold prices dip slightly after record high
After reaching a record high of Rs 190,600 per tola on Thursday, gold prices have fallen by Rs 800, with the new rate set at Rs 189,800 per tola, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association.
Meanwhile, silver prices remain stable at Rs 1,960 per tola.
Prohibitory order in Birgunj to be lifted from today
he indefinite prohibitory order imposed in Birgunj by the local administration since midnight last Sunday will be lifted starting 7:00 AM today (Friday).
The decision was made during a meeting of the District Security Committee held on Thursday evening, according to Parsa Chief District Officer Ganesh Aryal.
NEPSE renews membership of 90 brokers and two stock dealers
The Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. (NEPSE) has renewed the membership of broker companies and stock dealers for the fiscal year 2024/25, ensuring continued operations in the secondary securities market.
According to NEPSE, membership has been renewed for 90 broker companies and two stock dealers who had obtained membership by September 2024.
Anti-constitutional activities will not be tolerated: Home Minister
Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak said that anti-constitutional activities—whether in the name of former monarchists or any other group—will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
Inaugurating a province-level security seminar in Pokhara on Thursday, Minister Lekhak called for unity in defending the constitution, which he described as a result of long political struggle and sacrifice.
Two die, 14 get injury in bus accident
Two persons died while 14 others were injured in a bus accident occurred at Dharampani of Makwanpurgadhi rural municipality-2 today.
The bus (Ba Pra 01-006 Kha 7072) en route to Hetauda from Kathmandu fell some 200 metres down the road in the night- at 1:00 am. It was heading to Makwanpur via Kanti Highway, according to District Police Office, Makwanpur.
British national found dead in Kailali
A foreign national has been found dead in Bardagoriya Rural Municipality-4, Nomaboji, in Kailali district, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Stephen Gor, a 65-year-old British citizen, who had come to Nepal on a tourist visa. He had been staying at the house of a local resident, Man Bahadur Malla, since October 2024 last year.
NSL 2025 playoffs finalized: Lalitpur , Dhangadhi, Pokhara, and Chitwan advance
The Nepal Super League (NSL) 2025 has finalized its top four teams heading into the playoffs, with FC Chitwan claiming the final spot after a 3-1 comeback win over defending champions Dhangadhi FC on Thursday.
They will now face Pokhara Thunders, who secured fourth place, in the upcoming eliminator match.
Meanwhile, Dhangadhi FC, despite their first loss of the season, finish second with 11 points and will take on league leaders Lalitpur City FC in the first qualifier on Saturday.
Gunshot fired at Suddhodhan Rural Municipality chair’s house
Kamalesh Sharan Chaudhary, the chairperson of Suddhodhan Rural Municipality in Kapilvastu district, was reportedly targeted in a shooting incident at his residence late Thursday night.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mohan Mani Adhikari, spokesperson for the Kapilvastu District Police Office, the gunshot was fired at around 11:30 pm at Chaudhary’s residence in Ward No. 1, Pakdi, Mayadevi Rural Municipality.
Hetauda Cement resumes operations after six-month hiatus
After a six-month halt, Hetauda Cement Industry has resumed operations, beginning with the preparation of limestone for cement production earlier this week. According to Acting General Manager Naveen Kumar Karna, cement production is expected to start within the next couple of days, with a daily target of 600 quintals.
Summiteers’ summit at Thame on April 22
A summiteers’ summit will be held at Thame of Solukhumbu on April 22. The event being organized by an organization, Sathsathai, will be attended by mountain climbers, climate and tourism experts and three-tiers of government.
Chairperson of Sathsatahi, Prajita Karki, informed that the organizations and government alike were encouraged to hold the event. The event focused on climate change and tourism is related to the Sagarmatha Sambad, an international conference being held by the government.
Supreme Court orders Government not to deport Bhutanese refugees against their will
The Supreme Court has issued an interim order directing the government not to deport four Bhutanese refugee youths, recently expelled from the United States, to Bhutan or any other country against their will.
On March 24, Ashok Gurung, Santosh Darjee, Roshan Tamang, and Ashish Subedi were deported from the U.S.
Initially, they arrived in Bhutan, but were forced to leave after a few days. They then entered Nepal via India through the Kakarbhitta border point and were arrested from a refugee camp in Jhapa.
Grade 12 exams to proceed despite ongoing teachers’ protest
The National Examination Board (NEB) has confirmed that Grade 12 examinations will go ahead as scheduled, despite the ongoing protest by teachers across the country.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, the board urged students to continue preparing for their exams and called on parents and other stakeholders for coordination and support.
The NEB also appealed to the Nepal Teachers’ Federation and all educators to prioritize students’ futures and fulfill their professional responsibilities by participating in the management and evaluation processes of the exams.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has inaugurated the administrative building of Ichhakamana Rural Municipality amidst a programme here today.
The administrative building of Ichhakamana rural municipality of Chitwan was constructed at the cost of 390 million.
Addressing the inauguration of the new building, Prime Minister Oli said the government was fully effortful for good governance, development, prosperity and political stability.
PM Oli invites Teachers’ Union for talks on 17th fay of protest
On the 17th day of the nationwide protest led by the Nepal Teachers’ Federation, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has invited the union for dialogue.
According to General Secretary Tul Bahadur Thapa, the Prime Minister has called for a meeting at 7 PM on Friday evening. The federation’s delegation is preparing to attend the discussion.
“We will present our demands to the Prime Minister during the meeting,” Thapa said, adding that the protest will continue until the new Education Act is enacted.
Landless citizens’ problems will be addressed soon, asserts Minister Adhikari
Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Balaram Adhikari has said the problems of the landless citizens including the freed Kamaiyas, Haliyas and Harawacharawa would be addressed through the Land Problem Resolution Commission.
He said so during discussions with a delegation of the National Agricultural Bonded Labourers Struggle Committee held at the Ministry’s meeting hall in Singha Durbar today.
Stating that the government had declared in 2076 BS that the problems of landless people including Freed Kamaiya, Haliya and Harawacharawa had already been resolved and it was challenging to solve the remaining problems through other means.
41 people killed in disaster incidents in pre-monsoon
Forty one people lost their lives in disaster related incidents so far since the start of the pre-monsoon this year.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, a total of 257 people sustained injuries and property worth millions of rupees was damaged in such incidents during the period.
Pre-monsoon is now taking place in the country. Generally, the period of March-May is considered as the pre-monsoon season.
