KATHMANDU: National Assembly lawmakers have raised serious concerns about the increasing incidents of physical attacks and abuse against civil servants by local-level people’s representatives.
During the zero hour of today’s meeting, several lawmakers voiced their alarm over the growing violence and mistreatment of government employees, underscoring that even those who represent the people are involved in such actions.
Lawmaker Padam Bahadur Pariyar condemned the recent attack on employees by local representatives from Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 in Tanahun and called for an immediate investigation into the incident.
Fellow lawmaker Manarupa Sharma also expressed her outrage over the attack and demanded strict action against those responsible.
Lawmaker Renu Chand drew the government’s attention to the need to eradicate all forms of discrimination, stressing that those responsible for such actions must be held accountable.
Bishnu Devi Pudasaini, another member, emphasized the importance of inter-agency coordination in addressing critical infrastructure issues, including sewage, drinking water, and electricity in the capital city of Kathmandu.
Further highlighting their concerns, MPs Rukmini Koirala, Bishnukumari Sapkota, Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma, Krishna Prasad Adhikari, and Savitri Malla urged the government to immediately initiate an investigation into the mysterious death of Prakriti Lamsal, a Nepali student studying at KIIT University in Odisha, India.
The lawmakers have collectively called for prompt action to ensure justice for Lamsal and bring clarity to the incident.
