Prachanda declares Maoist Centre will emerge as first party in 2027 local elections
Former Prime Minister and Chair of the Maoist Centre, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has announced his party’s goal to become the leading force in the upcoming local elections.
Speaking at a vote of thanks and vigilance meeting in Teteriya, Gramthan Rural Municipality-5, Morang, on Saturday, Prachanda stated that the Maoist Centre aims to win more than 250 municipalities in the next elections, positioning it as the top party in the country.
Reflecting on the party’s recent successes, Prachanda highlighted the strategic importance of the Maoist Centre’s victories in the recent by-elections, where it secured two wards in Gramthan Rural Municipality and Udayapur, along with increased support in other areas.
U-19 Women’s World Cup: Bangladesh beat Nepal by 5 wickets
Bangladesh have beaten Nepal by five wickets in the ongoing ICC U-19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia.
After losing the toss and being put to bat, Nepal was bowled out for just 52 runs in 18.2 overs in their opening match on Saturday.
Nepal’s opener Sana Pravin was the top scorer with 19 runs, while Simana KC added 10. None of the other batters managed to reach double figures, resulting in a low total for Nepal.
Upendra Yadav rules out immediate cooperation with Socialist Front
Chair of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Upendra Yadav, has stated that there is no immediate possibility of cooperation with the Socialist Front.
Speaking to media persons in Lahan, Yadav remarked that while opposition parties are working to activate the Socialist Front, he is not inclined to participate at present.
“The Madhes movement has played a pivotal role in establishing a federal democratic republican governance system in the country,” Yadav said, reflecting on the significance of the movement in shaping Nepal’s political landscape.
Nepali Embassy in Bangkok warns against risky employment in east Asia
The Nepali Embassy in Bangkok has issued a cautionary notice urging citizens to avoid traveling to Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and similar destinations under the pretext of lucrative job opportunities.
The embassy highlighted the plight of Nepali citizens who have been lured by promises of high-paying employment in these countries, only to face exploitation and, in some cases, become hostages.
In a recent case, a Nepali individual, forced into illegal work in Myanmar’s Golden Triangle, managed to escape and entered Thailand. With the assistance of Thai government agencies, the individual was safely repatriated to Nepal on Friday.
SEBON resumes IPO approval process, grants permission to two companies
Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON)) has resumed the long-stalled process of granting permission for the issuance of Initial Public Offerings (IPOs). Recently, the board approved two companies to sell ordinary shares, signaling progress in the country’s stock market activities.
Crest Micro Life Insurance Limited has been granted permission to issue 2.25 million ordinary shares worth Rs 225 million. NIMB Ace Capital will act as the share sale manager for this issuance. Similarly, Om Megashree Pharmaceuticals has received approval to sell 1.8 million ordinary shares valued at Rs 180 million, with Prabhu Capital managing the share sale.
Together, these approvals account for 4.05 million shares worth Rs 405 million, reflecting the board’s efforts to revive IPO activities.
