1.6 million adolescent girls to be inoculated against cervical cancer



KATHMANDU: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel said the government was administering vaccines against cervical cancer to 1.6 million adolescent girls.

Inaugurating the ‘free health and eye camp’ organized by Janakalyan Samajik Kendra – an organization established in Tokha, Kathmandu, Minister Pauydel said the government was coordinating its efforts to provide inoculation service against cervical cancer to the adolescent girls.

“In order to prevent the spread of cancer among women, the government is providing anti-cancer vaccine to 1.6 million adolescent girls across the country from coming February 4,” the Health Minister shared.

He further said the ministry has arranged free cancer treatment for girls in five hospitals.

“The government has put forward an action plan in a way to distribute paralysis medicines free of cost”, he said, sharing the government’s plan to increase health insurance amount by expanding the fund based on citizens’ contributions.

“Presently, the amount of health insurance is Rs 100,000 and we are planning to increase it to Rs 500,000,” he said. Arrangements will be made to provide treatment through the insurance fund, he added. “Although Nepal’s health sector has improved a lot, it is still not enough”, the minister admitted.

Mayor of Tokha Municipality, Prakash Adhikari said the role played by Kendra in the transformation of the society was significant, pledging to extend support to its efforts for the cause of public cause.
