ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup begins today: Nepal to face Bangladesh in opening match



KATHMANDU:  The ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup kicks off today in Malaysia. Nepal will face Bangladesh in their opening match at 12:15 PM.

Nepal is placed in Group ‘D’ alongside Bangladesh, Australia, and Scotland. Nepal’s second match is scheduled against Scotland on January 20, while they will face Australia on January 22.

Group ‘A’ includes hosts Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies. Group ‘B’ features England, Ireland, Pakistan, and the USA, while Group ‘C’ comprises New Zealand, Samoa, South Africa, and Nigeria.

In today’s other matches, Australia will play Scotland, and England will take on Ireland, both starting at 8:15 AM. Nigeria will also face Samoa later in the day.

Led by captain Pooja Mahato, Nepal’s team showcased a competitive performance in their practice match against the West Indies but lost to the USA by five wickets. The team prepared for the tournament at the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium in Chitwan before departing for Malaysia.
