JANAKPURDHAM: CPN-UML Standing Committee member Khadga Raj Adhikari has said the UML is prepared to formally guarantee that party chair KP Sharma Oli will not take the post of prime minister immediately if the House of Representatives is reinstated.
Speaking to journalists at Janakpurdham Airport, Adhikari argued that reinstating the dissolved House and amending the constitution to allow a non-member of parliament to become prime minister for a short period is necessary to form what he called an impartial, trusted government.
According to him, such a government is essential because the current administration, which he claimed was formed in violation of the constitution, has failed to create a fear-free environment necessary for elections. He reiterated that the Gen-Z protests exposed serious security lapses, with criminals escaping from prison and weapons being looted, leaving the public anxious and uncertain.
Adhikari insisted that UML’s proposed guarantee regarding Oli’s temporary withdrawal from the prime ministerial race demonstrates the party’s commitment to resolving the political deadlock. He added that UML remains confident in Oli’s leadership internally, asserting that the party chair would be unanimously re-elected at its upcoming general convention.
He further stressed that political parties must work together to address issues seen in Madhesh Province, saying unity was essential to strengthen federalism and restore public trust.
