Nepal Premier League 2025 to begin today

KATHMANDU: The second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) kicks off today (Monday), with the tournament scheduled to run from November 17 to December 13.

Following the strong response to last year’s inaugural season, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) expects even greater nationwide engagement this time.

CAN General Secretary Paras Khadka said the league is likely to draw larger crowds, especially with matches being played under newly introduced day-night conditions at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground.

The prize money remains the same as last year: the champions will receive Rs 11 million, the runners-up Rs 5.1 million, the third-place team Rs 2.5 million, and the fourth-place finishers Rs 1.5 million.

The upgraded TU cricket ground now accommodates around 10,000 spectators, featuring new parapet seating and six floodlight towers equipped with 70 lights each—420 in total—making night cricket possible in Nepal for the first time. CAN said the new infrastructure will greatly enhance the spectator experience.

CAN expects to generate Rs 300–400 million from NPL 2025 and has already secured sponsorship commitments worth Rs 150 million.

Eight franchise teams will compete this season. Defending champions Janakpur Bolts will take on the Kathmandu Gurkhas in the opening match at 4 pm today at the TU cricket ground in Kirtipur.
