27 gates of Koshi Barrage opened after water level rises

DHARAN: Rising water levels in the Saptakoshi River have led to the opening of 27 gates of the Koshi Barrage. According to Police Spokesperson Yograj Khatri, water flow at the barrage reached 207,030 cusecs per second at 11 a.m. today, prompting the move.

On Tuesday night at 10 p.m., water flow was measured at 182,287 cusecs per second, with 24 gates opened. Earlier, on September 2, when the river’s flow surged significantly, 38 out of 56 gates had been opened. Flow had gradually decreased afterward but began rising again this morning, Khatri said.

The control room informed that the red warning light has been activated at the barrage, as water flow has surpassed the danger level of 150,000 cusecs per second. Continuous rainfall in the hill regions has contributed to the rising water level.
