KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said that Nepal wishes to derive greater benefits from India’s socio-economic and technological progress, as a close friend and neighbor.
The President made the remarks during a meeting with Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Sheetal Niwas, on Sunday. Misri is currently on an official visit to Nepal.
“We are happy and encouraged by India’s achievements as an emerging global power, particularly in the socio-economic and technological sectors,” President Paudel said. “Nepal has already benefited from India’s progress, and we seek to benefit even more in the days ahead.”
According to the President’s Office, President Paudel highlighted the centuries-old ties between Nepal and India, describing them as close and multifaceted, encompassing social, cultural, religious, spiritual, economic, and people-to-people relations.
“The relationship between our two countries is built on the principles of equality, friendly cooperation, mutual respect, and trust,” the President said, reaffirming Nepal’s longstanding commitment to prioritizing its relationship with India.
He also expressed appreciation for India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, stating that Nepal values the importance India places on its neighbors under this approach.
In response, Foreign Secretary Misri reiterated that Nepal holds a high priority under Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regional policy. He said his visit would provide an opportunity to explore ways to enhance connectivity and cooperation for shared development in the modern era.
He also expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to further strengthening the longstanding and friendly ties between the two countries.
