Dengue cases exceed 800 in Gandaki Province

POKHARA: The number of dengue infections in Gandaki Province has reached 811 since last month, with 202 new cases confirmed in the past three weeks alone.

According to data from the Provincial Ministry of Health, Kaski District has reported the highest number of cases at 441, followed by Tanahun (120), Lamjung (93), Gorkha (58), Baglung (32), Syangja (32), Parbat (20), Myagdi (10), Nawalpur (4), and Mustang (1). Manang remains the only district in the province with no reported dengue cases this year.

More than half of the total infections are concentrated in Pokhara Metropolitan City, where 432 cases have been recorded, including 129 in the past three weeks. Pokhara was a major hotspot last year, with over 8,600 dengue cases and three deaths reported.

With the high-risk period for dengue extending from mid-July to October, health authorities expect infection rates to rise in the coming weeks. In response, the Ministry of Health and other concerned agencies have intensified efforts to prevent and control the spread of the disease.

Local governments have launched campaigns to locate and destroy mosquito breeding grounds. Health experts urge the public to eliminate stagnant water from items such as discarded tires, drums, utensils, and flowerpots in homes, offices, and public spaces to prevent mosquito breeding.

Dengue is transmitted through the bite of infected female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.
