Prachanda says ‘visa scam’ dates back to 2007

CHITWAN: CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stated that the problem surrounding the misuse of ‘visit visas’ is not a recent issue, but one that has existed since 2007.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Press Center Chitwan at his Shivnagar residence on Tuesday, Dahal stressed the need for proper investigation and structural reform.

“This issue must not be ignored. If necessary, we are ready to amend the constitution, draft new laws, and take policy-level decisions,” he said, adding, “Even if I step aside, the Nepali people won’t let go of this issue.”

Dahal said although his party is in the opposition, they are still acting with the responsibilities of a ruling party.

“We are compelled to play the role of the ruling side for the sake of the constitution, laws, and system,” he remarked.

He also clarified the reasoning behind the recent agreement to lift the obstruction in Parliament, saying that it came with the condition that a probe committee would be formed within 30 days.

“We must pass the budget, introduce the Federal Civil Service Act and the School Education Act, and complete the remaining tasks of the peace process,” he said, underlining the responsibilities still ahead.
