Heavy rains block six major roads across Nepal

KATHMANDU: Monsoon rains have triggered landslides and flash floods across various parts of Nepal, blocking key roadways and severely affecting vehicular movement.

According to Nepal Police spokesperson DIG Binod Ghimire, six major roads remain obstructed due to natural disasters caused by continued rainfall.

In Lalitpur, the Kanti Lokpath road has been blocked since early morning after a landslide occurred in Bagmati Rural Municipality Ward 3, Chapeli.

In Sindhupalchok district, three different sections of the Araniko Highway have been shut down following landslides in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality. The affected areas include Kodari (Ward 2), Larcha (Ward 3), and Koplang (Ward 2), making travel across the region nearly impossible.

In Nawalparasi East, the Binayi River washed away a diversion in Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality Ward 1, obstructing the East-West Highway. Similarly, in Gulmi, a massive landslide in Kaligandaki Rural Municipality Ward 6 at Barlabba has completely blocked the Kaligandaki Corridor, a key route in the region. In Jumla’s Sinja area, landslides have closed the Jumla–Mugu road.

Meanwhile, in Dhankuta, the Ravi–Rake–Bhedetar road in Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality Ward 5 has reopened for one-way traffic, providing limited relief to travelers.

Nepal Police has confirmed that efforts to clear the debris and reopen the roads are currently underway. Authorities have advised the public to stay alert and check for updates before traveling, as further rainfall may lead to additional hazards and delays.
