IPL resumes today after suspension amid India-Pakistan tensions

KATHMANDU: The Indian Premier League (IPL), which was suspended due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, is set to resume from today.

The league was put on hold on May 8 after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to a terrorist attack in Kashmir.

Following the easing of tensions and the resolution of the conflict between the two countries, the popular cricket tournament will now continue as scheduled.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face off against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bangalore this evening. The match is set to begin at 7:45 pm Nepali time.

The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, which was halted mid-game on May 8 due to the military escalation, was among the disruptions caused by the conflict.

Before the suspension, Bangalore was second in the league table with 16 points from 11 matches. Kolkata, having played one more match, stood in sixth place with 11 points.

The remaining matches of the IPL will be played across six venues: Bangalore, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad. While the exact venue for the playoffs has not yet been finalized, the schedule has been confirmed. The first qualifier is set for May 29, followed by the eliminator on May 30, and the second qualifier on June 1. The IPL 2025 final is slated for June 3.

Meanwhile, the previously interrupted match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, originally scheduled for May 8, will now be played on May 26 in Jaipur.
