NEPSE falls nearly 50 points amid four-day trading week



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) closed nearly 50 points lower this week, continuing its downward trend during a shortened four-day trading session.

The market was closed on Monday due to Buddha Jayanti and remained shut over the weekend, allowing only four trading days between May 11 and 15.

The NEPSE index, which stood at 2661.64 points at the end of the previous week, dropped to 2611.85 points by Thursday, marking a total decline of 49.79 points.

The index fell consistently across all trading days, averaging a daily loss of 12 points. Overall market sentiment remained bearish throughout the week.

Turnover was also on the decline, with the total weekly transaction amount reaching Rs 35.65 billion. This brought the daily average to around Rs 8.91 billion. A total of 81.76 million shares were traded in 382,470 transactions. On average, 312 companies were traded per day.

On Sunday, NEPSE dropped by 12.53 points to close at 2649.11 points. Shares worth Rs 10.27 billion were traded across 300 companies.

The market remained closed on Monday due to the public holiday. When trading resumed on Tuesday, the index fell by 14.87 points to settle at 2634.24 points. Transactions on that day amounted to Rs 9.63 billion, with 314 companies traded.

The downward momentum continued on Wednesday as NEPSE slipped by another 13.96 points to reach 2620.28. Trades totaled Rs 8.73 billion involving 315 companies.

On the final trading day of the week, Thursday, the index declined by 8.41 points to close at 2611.85. A total of 320 companies were traded that day, with shares worth Rs 7.85 billion changing hands.

With consistent losses and a notable drop in turnover, the week reflected ongoing investor caution and market uncertainty.
