Nepal to host first-ever Everest Summiteers Summit on May 27

KATHMANDU: Nepal is set to host the first-ever international conference of climbers who have summited the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest. The event, titled the Everest Summiteers Summit, will take place in Kathmandu on May 27.

Organized by Everest Alliance Nepal, the landmark conference aims to bring together mountaineers from across the globe who have successfully reached the top of Everest.

So far, 177 climbers from 16 countries have registered for the event, according to Everest Alliance Nepal President Sudarshan Nepal.

“There has been an enthusiastic presence of climbers from various countries to participate in the conference,” he said.

Organizers expect the total number of participants to reach 500, marking a significant gathering of Everest summiteers.

Attendees will include climbers from India, China, the United States, Britain, Italy, Switzerland, Norway, Iran, Singapore, Australia, Lebanon, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates.

The historic gathering, which comes more than seven decades after the first successful ascent of Everest in 1953, will feature a special program to honor the youngest Sherpa who climbed the peak alongside Sir Edmund Hillary.

In addition to honoring mountaineering achievements, the conference will serve as a platform for serious dialogue on the growing impact of climate change in the Himalayan region. Chairman Nepal emphasized that climbers, many of whom have witnessed the changes firsthand, will engage in in-depth discussions on environmental threats to Everest and the broader Himalayas.

The Everest Summiteers Summit marks a milestone in Nepal’s mountaineering history and is expected to enhance international collaboration on both climbing and conservation efforts in the world’s highest mountain range.
