Flood wreaks havoc in Humla

HUMLA: Torrential rain on Thursday morning triggered a flood that severely damaged Srinagar Bazaar, the commercial hub of Adanchuli Rural Municipality in Humla district.

According to local authorities, at least 11 houses and shops were affected by the disaster, which struck suddenly and caught residents off guard.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Pokharel of the District Police Office, Humla, confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing, with both local residents and security personnel working together to assess the damage and assist affected families.

In Ward No. 3 of Adanchuli, farmer Aite Budha suffered a heavy loss after a landslide caused by the rain buried his goat shed.

Out of 70 goats in the shed, 26 were found dead, while 29 were rescued with the help of neighbors. The remaining goats are still missing, and the search continues.

“This sudden rain caused major destruction. I had raised the goats with a lot of effort, and now I have lost many of them,” said a distraught Budha.

The flood also swept away temporary tents and damaged shop inventories in Srinagar Bazaar, affecting local traders. Journalist Mohan Singh Budha reported that 11 shops, one house, and a goat shed were washed away or buried in the flood and landslide.

Among those impacted are shopkeepers like Amrit Budha of Adanchuli-2 and Budhi Mahatara of Adanchuli-1, whose businesses suffered severe losses. Many homes and huts in the area were also inundated by the muddy floodwaters.

Authorities are still collecting detailed reports, and local efforts are underway to help affected families recover from the damage.
