KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is holding a meeting of its Central Committee today.
The decision was made during a meeting of the party’s Secretariat, according to acting spokesperson Manish Jha.
Jha stated that the Central Committee will make key decisions regarding the party’s ongoing mass march, which began in Chitwan.
The RSP launched its mass march from Chitwan on Chaitra 23. However, a day earlier, the Tulshipur High Court had ordered the arrest of party President Rabi Lamichhane, overturning a previous ruling by the Rupandehi District Court that had released him on bail.
Lamichhane was arrested from his residence in Hattigauda, reportedly as part of a symbolic initiative to highlight issues within Nepal’s prison system. Despite his arrest, the RSP proceeded with the march’s launch—but has not continued the program since.
The upcoming Central Committee meeting is expected to chart the future course of action regarding the halted march.
Meanwhile, with the party president currently in prison, the RSP is also considering postponing its upcoming general convention. A final decision on the matter will be taken by the Central Committee.
