Wildfire breaks out in Gorakhnath Community Forest

KAVRE: A fire broke out in the Gorakhnath Community Forest in Bolde, Bethanchok Rural Municipality-3, in the southern part of Kavre on Sunday night.

The fire, which started around 11:00 pm, continues to spread, prompting ongoing efforts by local authorities and residents to control the blaze.

The fire poses a significant threat to the nearby settlement, which is approximately one kilometer away from the affected area.

Additionally, the drinking water projects in Thalidanda and Hark Bhanjyang are at risk. Ward Chairman Kuber Dhakal of Bethanchok Rural Municipality-3 expressed concerns that if the fire spreads further, human settlements may be in danger.

Due to the nighttime visibility issues, it has been difficult to control the fire, and local police, people’s representatives, Forest Users Committee officials, and locals have been working since morning to tackle the situation. Thankfully, there have been no reports of human or animal casualties as of now.

This incident follows a similar fire in the region last year, when a blaze broke out in the Mahabharat Forest at Thamalekh Danda in Khanikhola Rural Municipality-1.

The fire spread across multiple municipalities, and after efforts by the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and other local bodies, a helicopter was called in to assist in bringing the fire under control after four days of firefighting efforts.

Local authorities are now closely monitoring the situation, with helicopters on standby in case the fire becomes uncontrollable.
