Prime Minister calls cabinet meeting to appoint new IGP

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a cabinet meeting for today at 4 pm at his official residence in Baluwatar.

The meeting is expected to focus on the appointment of a new Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Nepal Police, a position that will become vacant tonight with the compulsory retirement of current IGP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.

Sources indicate that the new IGP will be selected from among three Additional Inspectors General of Police (AIGs): Deepak Thapa, Sudip Giri, and Tek Bahadur Tamang.

The decision comes as Kunwar’s term concludes after his mandatory retirement.
