Vianet International Women’s Championship: Myanmar secures 3-1 victory over Lebanon

KATHMANDU: Myanmar made a strong start to the international women’s football tournament in Kathmandu with a 3-1 victory over Lebanon in the opening match at Dashrath Stadium.

Despite a goalless first half, the match saw four goals in the second half.

Myanmar had multiple scoring opportunities early on but failed to convert, with Lebanese goalkeeper Marcelle Skaiki making crucial saves. Lebanon also came close to scoring when Lili Iskandar’s shot hit the bar after beating the keeper.

The deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Myanmar captain Win Theingi Tun found the net with a brilliant strike from the edge of the box, capitalizing on a pass from May Thet Mon Myint. Lebanon responded quickly, with Iskandar scoring in the 60th minute after receiving a pass from midfield and beating the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.

Myanmar regained the lead in the 72nd minute, when Shwe Yee Tun headed in a cross from Yu Par Khaing. Just three minutes later, San Thaw Thaw extended the lead, securing Myanmar’s first win of the tournament.

The next match of the tournament will see Nepal face Kyrgyzstan at 6 pm.
