Prachanda demands PM Oli’s resignation in presence of seven opposition parties

Chairperson of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has called for the resignation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Amid rising opposition criticism, Dahal made the demand during a press conference held in Kathmandu on Friday. He cited the failure of the coalition government, led by Oli since its formation on Asar 30, as the reason for his call.

“The coalition was formed with specific objectives, none of which have been achieved. Moreover, the Prime Minister’s statement to amend the constitution in 2087 has rendered the coalition meaningless,” said Prachanda. “This government has lost its moral authority. Resigning on ethical grounds would be appropriate. Let me clarify that we are not in a hurry to take over the government.”

Opposition parties, including the Maoists, accuse Congress-UML alliance of five major issues

The major opposition party, CPN (Maoist Centre), along with other opposition groups, has leveled five serious allegations against the Congress-UML-led coalition government.

In a statement released after a meeting held at the Parliament Building in New Baneshwor on Friday, the opposition accused the government of various misconducts.

The opposition parties expressed concern over the government’s plan to amend the constitution to increase the electoral threshold to 5%, claiming it could lead to a two-party authoritarian rule.

Ordinance will be presented in parliament in two weeks, says PM Oli

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced that ordinances for necessary legal amendments, aimed at accelerating development and energizing the sector, will be presented in the upcoming parliamentary session in 15 days, with the intention to have them passed within two months.

Addressing the Silver Jubilee event of the Independent Power Producers Association Nepal (IPPAN) in Kathmandu on Friday, Oli said these amendments were crucial for the country’s progress and will prioritize legal reforms as well as infrastructure development.

Oli stated that the government is committed to pushing the country towards prosperity and that industrial revival is high on the agenda. He assured that efforts are underway to restart closed industries under new frameworks, with a focus on revitalizing the country’s energy sector.

The police have submitted a supplementary report implicating Lamichhane, 31 individuals, and 7 companies in the misuse of the cooperative’s savings, to the Office of the District Government Attorney.

Ltd., Rs 97.3 million in Nature Herbs International Pvt. Ltd., Rs 92.7 million in GB Group of Companies, Rs 68.1 million in Spring Wood Real Estate and Rs 65.1 million in Nature Nest Pvt. Ltd.

Energy entrepreneurs call for reforms as Nepal’s hydropower sector faces systematic challenges

The private sector has become a vital contributor to Nepal’s hydropower development, currently producing 2,700 MW of electricity out of the country’s total installed capacity of 3,500 MW.

Over 80 percent of ongoing hydropower projects, totaling 4,500 MW, are funded by private investment. However, energy entrepreneurs are raising concerns about mounting challenges that threaten the sustainability and growth of this sector.

Nepal’s journey toward private sector involvement in hydropower began in 1993 with the Khimti Hydropower Project, the first to secure a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Since then, private investments have propelled Nepal to become a net exporter of electricity.
