Nepal Police warns against fraudulent calls and emails

KATHMANDU: Have you been receiving phone calls from unfamiliar numbers or enticing emails from unknown IDs? If yes, beware! Such messages or communications could lead to significant financial losses or even leave you homeless.

Nepal Police Cyber Bureau spokesperson, SP Deepak Raj Awasti, has urged the public not to trust or respond to such calls or emails. He said falling for such scams has led many people to become victims of fraud, making it imperative to exercise caution.

SP Awasti stated that complaints have been received at the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau and the police headquarters about fake emails impersonating specialized police units and senior police officials. These emails often claim to provide warnings or urgent instructions.

“These emails, claiming to be sent from the Cyber Bureau or other police offices, are fake. We sincerely request everyone not to trust or respond to such emails,” Awasti said.

The bureau has initiated investigations into these fraudulent emails and urges anyone who receives suspicious messages to report them immediately. For assistance, the public can contact the Cyber Bureau through its official website, cyberbureau.nepalpolice.gov.np, which lists contact numbers and an official email address.

A public notice has also been issued, encouraging vigilance and advising citizens to report any suspicious activity to their nearest police station.
