KATHMANDU: The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation for the promotion of bilateral tourism between Nepal and South Korea.
The MoU was signed on Tuesday by TAAN President Sagar Pandey and KATA Vice President Kim Beomje in the presence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nepal, Park Tae-Young.
The agreement aims to promote closer collaboration between the two umbrella organizations of trekking and travel agencies, enhance people-to-people ties, and expand tourism exchanges between the two countries.
As per the MoU, TAAN will work closely with KATA and Korean travel agencies to promote Nepal’s tourism products and destinations in the South Korean market through joint promotional activities. The association will also focus on improving the safety and security of Korean tourists visiting Nepal by strengthening information sharing, safety training, and timely search and rescue coordination.
TAAN will further collaborate with KATA to support initiatives that encourage Nepali tourists to visit South Korea, thereby promoting two-way tourism flows.
Similarly, KATA has committed to organizing promotional events, campaigns, and tourism marketing activities in coordination with TAAN to attract more Korean tourists to Nepal. KATA will also provide technical, informational, and logistical support to enhance the safety of Korean trekkers and other visitors travelling in Nepal.
Both organizations have agreed to work jointly on long-term initiatives aimed at expanding tourism cooperation and addressing operational challenges faced by tourists in both countries.
The MoU signing ceremony was attended by KATA General Secretary Bae Young Chang, Chairperson of the Korea Association of Nepal Cha Seung Won, and senior office-bearers and executive committee members of TAAN. Those present included TAAN General Secretary Sonam G. Sherpa, Joint Treasurer Lakpa T. Sherpa, executive committee members Raju Gurung, Ramesh Lamsal, Nakul Devkota, Rajendra Amgain, and TAAN Chief Executive Officer Ram Chandra Sedai, among others.
Stakeholders expressed confidence that the agreement would contribute to increased tourist arrivals, improved safety standards, and stronger tourism cooperation between Nepal and South Korea.
