Man arrested for cheating victim of Rs 300,000 on pretext of sending to South Korea

KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a man on charges of cheating a victim by promising employment in South Korea with the lure of an attractive salary.

The arrested individual has been identified as 43-year-old Khadananda Lamichhane, originally from Bhimsen Nath Rural Municipality-2 of Gorkha and currently residing at Tokha Municipality-3, Kathmandu.

According to police, Lamichhane had taken Rs 300,000 from a victim by assuring them that he would arrange employment in South Korea. After receiving the money, he reportedly went out of contact, prompting the victim to file a complaint.

Based on the complaint, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Lamichhane from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9 on Monday.

Police said preliminary investigation suggests Lamichhane was involved in defrauding individuals by falsely promising foreign employment opportunities.

Following his arrest, Lamichhane has been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment in Tahachal, Kathmandu, for further investigation and legal action.

Police have urged the public to remain cautious of individuals and agents offering foreign employment with unrealistic salary promises and advised job seekers to verify the legitimacy of agencies before making any financial transactions.
