Arbakuna Orange Farmer Group earns Rs 8.7 million from orange sales

SYANGJA: The Arbakuna Orange Farmer Group in Putalibazaar Municipality-7, Syangja, has generated Rs 8.7 million this year through orange sales, bringing significant income to the local community.

Chairman Yam Bahadur Sen stated that orange cultivation, introduced as a cash crop in areas previously used for millet and maize, has steadily increased household income. Currently, 31 farmers are affiliated with the group, each earning between Rs 100,000 and Rs 1.5 million annually from oranges.

Sen expects production and income to rise in the coming years as more households join the group and new orange plants are added. He projected that next year alone, the group will sell oranges worth over Rs 10 million.

Oranges are sold collectively through the group or individually by farmers, often negotiated with local traders at rates of Rs 60–70 per kilogram. Regular meetings are held to discuss marketing, pricing, and challenges faced by the farmers.

Syangja is renowned for its high-quality oranges, and the Prime Minister’s Agriculture Modernization Project Orange Superzone continues to expand orange cultivation in the district.
