Election Commission releases schedule for the March 5 election



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has published the official schedule for the House of Representatives election set for March 5.

According to the commission, the timeline for both the First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) system and the Proportional Representation (PR) system has been published on its website and in the Nepal Gazette.

First-Past-The-Post (FPTP) System

Nomination registration will take place on January 20 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the office of the election officer.

The preliminary list of candidates will be published the same day between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Objection period: January 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Verification and decision: From 3 p.m. on January 21 to 5 p.m. on January 22
Publication of the candidate list: January 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Withdrawal of candidacy: January 23 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Final list of candidates: January 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Distribution of election symbols: January 23 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Proportional Representation (PR) System
The PR process will begin on December 6.
Party registration: From midnight of December 7 to 4 p.m. on December 9
Publication of registered parties: December 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Submission of closed lists: December 28 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Final closed list publication: February 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Voting
Voting will take place nationwide on March 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the commission is committed to completing all processes within the legal time frame, ensuring transparency and conducting the election successfully.
