EC holding consultations with political parties today

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission is holding a consultation meeting with political parties on Thursday as part of its preparations for the upcoming national and provincial elections slated for March 5.

The meeting, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the commission’s central office, will bring together representatives of parties that had representation in the dissolved House of Representatives, provincial assemblies, and local governments, according to the commission.

Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said that all registered political parties, including those with even a single elected representative at the ward level, have been invited to provide their inputs and suggestions.

Currently, 122 political parties are registered with the commission. The EC has also called for the registration of new political parties ahead of the polls. As per the election code, any new party wishing to contest the elections must obtain its registration certificate by November 16.

Officials said Thursday’s meeting will primarily focus on the party registration process, logistical preparations, and creating a conducive environment for the elections.

The Election Commission has intensified its internal preparations after the government’s announcement of the election date, with technical and administrative work already underway to meet the schedule.
