Nakkhu prison uncertain about Lamichhane’s transfer schedule

KATHMANDU: Despite a decision to move Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane to Nakkhu prison, officials at the facility say they have no clear information on when he will actually arrive.

Lamichhane, who has been in Rupandehi prison since April on judicial custody in the cooperative fraud case, is being relocated following his own request to the Department of Prison Management.

Department director Kalpana Ghimire Nepal confirmed that approval has been granted but stressed that the transfer timing depends on coordination between prisons and security agencies.

“At this stage, we cannot say exactly when he will be brought. It will be done only after both prisons reach an understanding based on security considerations,” she said.

Nakkhu prison police inspector Netra Bahadur Kunwar echoed the uncertainty. “The time is not fixed,” he said, referring further queries to Lalitpur Police. SP Chakraraj Joshi also stated that although the transfer decision had been made, the exact schedule remains undecided.

Meanwhile, RSP supporters are preparing to gather outside Nakkhu prison to welcome their leader once the transfer takes place.
