Man shot dead in Sarlahi



MALANGAWA: A 45-year-old man was shot dead in Haripurwa Municipality of Sarlahi district on Friday evening.

According to Sarlahi Police Spokesperson DSP Saroj Rai, the victim has been identified as Rampunkar Rai Yadav, a resident of Haripurwa-6.

Yadav was sitting in the courtyard of his house chatting with neighbors when two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and asked for him by name before opening fire. Eyewitnesses said one of the attackers pulled out a pistol and shot him in the head.

Yadav, critically injured in the attack, was rushed to a health facility in Parsa village of Sona Municipality, Mahottari, where he was pronounced dead, police confirmed.

As the attackers attempted to flee, their motorcycle crashed in Basantpur, also within Haripurwa Municipality.

One suspect managed to escape, while the other, injured in the accident, has been taken into custody and is receiving treatment under police supervision in Janakpur, DSP Rai said. Police added that the identities of those involved have already been established.

Locals said the deceased had previously worked as a teacher at a private school in Malangawa, the district headquarters, before taking up farming. He was also known to have invested money in local lending activities.
