Heavy rainfall forecast in parts of five provinces



KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology today said that monsoon winds are currently active across the country, with the monsoon low-pressure line situated near its average position in the western region and slightly north of average in the eastern region.

According to the Department, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely in many areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces, and at some places in the remaining provinces.

Heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of Koshi Province, while one or two locations in Madhes, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces may also receive heavy rain.

There is also a chance of light to moderate rain and snowfall in the high hills and mountainous regions of the country. Windy conditions are likely in the Terai areas of Koshi and in some parts of Madhes Province.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in some hilly areas, particularly in Koshi, Madhes, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as isolated areas in other provinces.

According to the Department, heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in Koshi, Madhes, and Sudurpaschim provinces. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are also expected in parts of the high hilly and mountainous regions. Some areas of Madhes may continue to experience strong winds.

The Department has warned of potential hazards, including floods, landslides, and mudslides, due to the anticipated rainfall. It has urged residents, especially in urban and Terai regions, to remain alert for possible inundation. Rising water levels in rivers and streams could affect daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, roadways, and air transportation in affected areas.

The general public and concerned authorities have been advised to take necessary precautions and remain prepared.
