KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) General Secretary and Member of Parliament Dhawal Shamsher Rana appeared before the Kathmandu District Court on Monday, where his statement was officially recorded.
The proceedings began at the bench of Judge Shiva Prasad Khanal following Rana’s arrival at the court.
He is facing four separate charges in connection with the March 28 incident in the Tinkune area, including a case of treason (offense against the state), criminal unrest, organized crime, and charges under the integrated offenses clause. The prosecution has demanded punishment under all four charges.
Rana had previously been released on a bail bond for medical reasons after an initial police investigation. However, he had remained out of contact for an extended period before finally appearing at court on Monday morning.
Following the completion of his statement, a detention hearing will be held to determine whether he will be remanded into custody or released during trial proceedings.
Meanwhile, RPP Senior Vice Chair Rabindra Mishra — who was released earlier through a habeas corpus petition — remains out of contact. Like Rana, he had also been freed on bail but has not appeared publicly since.
