Nabin Manandhar to continue as KMC spokesperson

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has clarified that Nabin Manandhar will continue to serve as its spokesperson, despite recent changes to the leadership of several municipal committees.

Mayor Balen Shah recently reshuffled the coordinators of four key committees under the municipal executive, including the Information Technology Committee, previously headed by Manandhar. That responsibility has now been given to Birendra Prajapati.

Traditionally, the coordinator of the Information Technology Committee also serves as the city’s spokesperson, leading to speculation that Manandhar would be replaced. However, KMC has confirmed he will remain in the role.

“He has been removed from the post of coordinator, but he will continue as spokesperson,” said assistant spokesperson Dhruv Kafle.

Other committee changes include the appointment of Dal Bahadur Karki to replace Khyamraj Tiwari as coordinator of the Good Governance Committee, Binod Kumar Rajbhandari replacing Ashaman Sangat in the Heritage and Tourism Committee, and Rojina Shrestha replacing Macharaja Maharjan in the Legislative Committee.

The mayor’s office stated that the reshuffle was conducted in accordance with Rule 15 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Municipal Executive (Work Execution) Regulations 2017.

According to Balen’s press coordinator Surendra Bajgain, the changes were made because the previous coordinators had completed three years in their roles.

“We wanted to give new faces a chance,” he said.
