DHANUSHA: Electricity supply has been disrupted in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts since early Wednesday morning following a fire that broke out at the Nepal Electricity Authority’s (NEA) Dhalkebar grid substation.
According to Shambhu Kushiyat, head of NEA’s provincial office, the fire — caused by a short circuit — damaged key equipment, including cables and breakers, around 7:30 am.
Although the fire was brought under control within an hour, it caused significant damage to the infrastructure, leading to a widespread power outage in the affected districts.
“Repair work began immediately after the fire was controlled, and efforts have been ongoing since 8:30 am,” Kushiyat said. “We aim to restore electricity to the affected areas by this evening.”
The incident had also temporarily disrupted electricity in Sarlahi district. However, power there was restored after the supply was rerouted through an alternative feed.
NEA officials are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and working to restore normal service in Dhanusha and Mahottari as soon as possible.
