KATHMANDU: CPN-UML lawmaker Raghuji Pant has stated that efforts to spread illusions and frustrations in the country have intensified, citing the misuse of some media and social platforms.

Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, Pant emphasized that studies indicate a positive shift in the living standards and economic status of the majority of Nepali citizens.

He pointed out that in the 15 years since the country transitioned to a federal democratic system on May 28, 2008, the average income of Nepali citizens has tripled, accompanied by the strengthening of democracy.

However, he criticized the false narrative suggesting that little progress had been made in Nepal following the establishment of the federal republic.

“The existing Constitution of Nepal does not recognize the monarchy,” Pant remarked, urging the concerned bodies not to entertain the idea of restoring the monarchy.

He further stressed that Nepali citizens do not desire a return of the monarchy, and that it is futile to spend time discussing its restoration.

Pant also highlighted the inclusivity of the federal democratic republic system, pointing out that individuals from diverse backgrounds have held significant positions of power.

“A son from the Terai became the President, and a woman from the far-east of Nepal held the same post. Tomorrow, someone from an ethnic or other community may hold the position. What is the problem with that?” he questioned, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and diverse representation in the state.
