Fire at Syuchatar destroys property worth Rs 1.5 million

KATHMANDU: A house with a tin roof, owned by local Krishna Hari Shrestha in Kathmandu, was completely destroyed by a fire last night, causing damages worth Rs 1.5 million.

The fire, which started at 9:40 PM, raged for an hour, consuming the one-story house in Syuchatar, Nagarjun Municipality-7, according to Apil Bohara, spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu.

Due to the narrow street leading to the house, fire trucks had difficulty reaching the site in time to provide prompt emergency intervention.

However, security personnel and local residents managed to extinguish the fire with the assistance of two smaller fire engines. Although four other fire trucks arrived at the scene, they were unable to access the site because of the narrow street.

A team of police officers, led by Rupak Khadka, Chief of the Kalimati Police Circle, was deployed to help douse the flames. Police personnel from Swayambhu also assisted in the rescue efforts.

All household items, including clothes, food, furniture, and utensils, were destroyed in the fire.

Authorities suspect the cause of the fire may have been a power leakage.
