KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has sought an explanation from Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli regarding the issuance of a land-related ordinance.

On Sunday, the court issued a show-cause order in response to a contempt of court petition filed by advocate Om Prakash Aryal, who argued that the ordinance, introduced on Magh 2, disregards a previous Supreme Court ruling.

A joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Nityananda Pandey issued the order after hearing Aryal’s petition, which alleges that the government failed to implement the Supreme Court’s decision on the Giribandhu Tea Estate in Jhapa and instead introduced the ordinance to bypass the ruling.

Aryal has accused the Oli-led government of obstructing the implementation of the constitutional bench’s directive and has even demanded the prime minister’s removal over the issue.
